Dry bulk shipping market: freight rates stabilize but outlook remains uncertain

Entering September, dry bulk freight rates have generally remained stable, but Capesize shipping rates have faced downward pressure, while Panamax and Handysize shipping rates have increased.Although overall freight rates have stabilized, the market outlook remains uncertain.

Currently, the number of empty ships is mixed, with Capesize, Handymax and Handymax vessels on a downward trend, while Panamax vessels are on an upward trend.

The number of empty Capesize ships heading to southeast Africa was 109, down 6% from the previous week and 13% from the previous high in week 29.

The number of empty Panamax ships heading to southeast Africa is about 160, an increase of nearly 30 ships from the 32nd week, and there are signs of further growth.

The number of empty Handysize ships heading to Southeast Asia is 105, which is highly volatile and has not yet shown a clear upward or downward trend.

Although the demand for Capesize ships did not increase to the peak in the 27th week, it still showed an upward trend; the demand for Panamax ships showed a downward trend after a significant increase at the end of August.In early September, the demand for Handysize ships also showed an overall downward trend, falling to the level of early August, while the Handysize ship market showed an obvious downward trend.
