Kenya’s Communications and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary meets with digital technology thought leaders in preparation for Connected Africa Summit 2024

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 25 – Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo on Monday inaugurated the Connected Africa Summit 2024.

The Continental Summit will build on the outcomes of the Connected Kenya Summit, which has been held for 12 years under the auspices of the Information and Communications Technology Authority.

The continental summit, scheduled to take place from April 2 to 5 next year, aims to boost Africa’s access to ICT and innovation by opening up intra-African trade through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), which focuses on the digital economy.

The agreement, which has so far been ratified by more than 47 African countries, is expected to leverage ICT and the digital economy to boost trade across the continent while creating new opportunities for the continent’s growing young population.

Speaking at the Post-Internet Summit breakfast, CS Owalo reiterated the ministry’s support for the event, saying the event was timely and historic for digital partnership, integration and development on the continent .

As the digital economy continues to create jobs and wealth creation opportunities, under the initiative launched by the ICT Authority, Africa must take its place in the wider global economy and we can only do this by developing our capabilities in ICT and innovation make it happen.

The Connected Africa Summit 2024 will provide a platform for African innovators to showcase their capabilities and integrate into the wider global economy.

The Connectivity Summit brings together industry players from the private, public sector and academia.
